Story board

Sue's Evaluation

Our initial ideas were that we would have the two characters having an arm wrestle to see who gets to pick what to watch on TV. But after we started to animate we realised that it would be to short, so we developed the story in a more creative way with more variety. One thing that we did keep was our characters that we had created. It was only during the end that we decided to have a man walk into the screen and shape them into a block and chair.

The things that went well in our production is the animation because we reanimated some scenes so that we could get the right fps so that when we render the video doesn’t jump or skip. We worked as a team plotting ideas and piecing them together which allowed use to create a storyline for our animation. In the end of production we had to add a member to our team and had to integrate him in our production so we quickly came up with the idea of putting him in the video and having him squish and mould the clay characters into an object which created a sense of creativity. We decided to add some SFX and music to create some atmosphere. In my production I have used some techniques that some professional clay animators have used such as the squash and flatten technique from 'Pingu' and 'Morph'

On the other hand in our production one of the draw backs was that we didn’t have enough time to add dialogue to our characters. The scenes that we didn’t get to redo are jumpy because we didn’t have time to redo them which made our video to fast and unable to see in some places and the fact that we didn’t have a mini tripod to help with capturing the out our animation which also contributed to the lesser quality. We has some issues with the clay characters because the sometimes fell apart. We also had a problem with our post production that had a typo in the end and on one of the frames there is a hand in the shot because we didn’t have enough time we had to rush the ending.

If I was to do clay animation again I would spend more time in preproduction with creating the characters and refining the story to make it more interesting and appealing to the audience. I would also change the camera and I would use a mini tripod to hold an angle so that it can look more of a standard clay animation like 'Morph' or 'Pingu' from the short films. I would also build more set and environment out of clay so that the audience would understand the location it is set in which would make them understand the plot more. I feel that our storyline could have been clearer by writing a script.

In conclusion I think that my product has shows good potential and could become even more interesting that it is now because it portrays pro techniques, good camera use and light comedy. My product might suffer from the fps being jumpy in the beginning, a hand in one of the frames and the typo at the end but those will be just the few of the many things I will improve on next time I create a clay animation. Overall my product does suffer a lot and could use a lot of improvement but it still holds some fetchers of action and light comedy and will entertain the audience.
